Unique Learning System

Comprehencia thinks with you

Comprehencia's unique learning system incorporates the best of the standards - Leitner, spaced repetition and Ebbinghaus - but also adds additional, intelligent computational power to compensate for key fatal flaws those standards share.

The Standards

Leitner and others don't account for how easy or difficult it was for you to learn a word or item. You see, in the world of the standards, each word, phrase or whatever it is you want to learn sits on a "flashcard." Each flashcard is placed in a specific "box" based on how many times you correctly learned the information on it. But also in the Leitner world, there is no way to distinguish HOW a particular card arrived in its box - whether it got there quickly because the information on it was very easy for you to learn, or whether the information on it took you ten, twenty or more times to master. Each card is simply placed into a specific box, without its learning history attached, and all cards in that box are treated equally.

Leitner and others mark your proficiency at one point in time only.To make matters worse, cards in the Leitner-only world stay where they are - no matter how long you're away from your learning. Suppose you study a language for a year. After that year, 1000 cards, reflecting 1000 vocabulary words, are in the last Leitner box, which supposedly means that those words are locked into your long-term memory for the rest of your life. If you continue on with your studies for the rest of your life, they may very well be.

Leitner and others don't allow you to pick back up on your studies when life "happens." But what if, after a year of study, you find that you don't have time to continue? You take a new job. Get married. Go on an extended holiday. A year passes and, ready to learn once again, you return to your Leitner system. But it, inaccurately, still reflects the state of your learning from one year ago. It does not take into account your natural tendency to lose, or forget, information, which means that should you desire to begin your studies again after any period of time, you will not be able to "pick back up again" with a Leitner-only system. Instead, you must begin from scratch, reviewing each of the 1000 cards again, wasting valuable time and energy.

Comprehencia's Approach

Comprehencia accounts for each word or item's learning history AND the passage of time. Using a powerful computational algorithm that takes into account how you learned the information on each flashcard, as well as the passage of time and your natural inclination to forget things, Comprehencia stores and reflects your whole learning history over time - even over the whole of your life!

Comprehencia's unique learning system recalculates the optimal sorting of your flashcard pool in a dynamic, continuous way. In Comprehencia, your flashcard pool is always in motion. Using computing power and algorithmic intelligence, Comprehencia changes your flashcard pool every single second based on how you learned the information on each and every card, as well as based on how much time has passed since you last studied, to reflect and adapt to the changes in your mind, even when you are not learning.

Simply put: Comprehencia mimics how learning really takes place in your mind!
